CARBON ZEROW – A CARBON NEUTRAL TRANSALTANTIC OCEAN ROWING EXPEDITION.

I was a part of a team of 4 persons who successfully completed the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge on
28 th of January 2018 after spending 45 days 13 hours and 1 minute crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Our team
was called CarbonZerow, as the name suggests, we were a net carbon neutral expedition, the first of its
kind. This means that our carbon emissions were audited by The Carbon Trust and we offset the carbon
emissions related to the expedition through the purchase of high-value carbon credits provided by our
charity partner – The World Land Trust.

The crossing was arduous, imperilling and has left an inedible mark on each of our memories. More than
anything, the experience was humbling. It shed light on the relationship between humans and the
environment; being exposed to the elements reinforced a sense of environmental stewardship that I think
many of us feel. Noah and David from Designing our Futures were kind enough to invite us on their
podcast ‘Three Professors walk into a bar” to talk about our experience and the role of carbon neutral
program design in our project.

We would have never made it across the Atlantic without the community of supporters we garnered
